Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Monday, February 13, 2012. A storm raced out of the Rockies and into the Plains on Monday, producing a good shot of Winter weather in the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Winter Weather Advisories were posted from eastern Oklahoma through the western Tennessee Valley in anticipation of several inches of new snow. Snow fell as far north as Minnesota and Michigan, but lighter snow was reported the farther north you went. In the warmer air closer to the Gulf Coast, rain fell in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Wet weather also greeted the West Coast as a Pacific storm slammed into California. This storm lacked a tremendous amount of moisture, but it has been a very dry Winter for the state thus far, and any precipitation is very much welcomed. Up to a foot of new snow is possible from this storm in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevadas when all is said and done.

The East Coast was dry as a high pressure continued to dominate, but the region experienced another chilly day. By the afternoon, temperatures were still in the 20s and 30s for many areas in New England, while temperatures in the 30s were experience as far south as Arkansas. Morning temperatures were in the 20s in northern Florida.

The Northern Plains rose into the 20s and 30s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The Southwest rose into the 40s, 50s, and some 60s.

Special Statement
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 11:00 PM CST on February 13, 2012

... Accumulating snows ending... freezing drizzle developing...

The accumulating snows have come to an end in most of central and
southeast Illinois as of 11 PM. Additional snows may linger
through midnight east of a line from Bloomington... to
Champaign... to Lawrenceville. Total snow accumulations have
reached between 1 to 2 inches along and south of Interstate
72... while snowfall has remained under an inch in most areas north
of I-72.

Freezing drizzle has developed in the west... from Jacksonville to
Galesburg... and will continue spreading east overnight. Light
snow may periodically mix in with the freezing drizzle into
Tuesday morning. Icy and slippery roads will continue as
temperatures remain in the upper 20s. The hazardous driving
conditions could last through the morning commute.

Anyone planning travel overnight should be aware of icy and slippery
Road conditions. Be especially cautious on elevated Road surfaces
such as bridges and overpasses which typically see snow and ice
accumulation before other areas.
