... Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday afternoon...
The Flood Watch continues for
* a portion of central Illinois... including the following
areas... Cass... Fulton... Logan... Mason... Menard... Morgan...
Sangamon... Schuyler and Scott.
* Through Tuesday afternoon
* periods of rain will continue across the area through Tuesday.
Rainfall so far has ranged from one and a quarter to locally two
and a half inches from Jacksonville to Lincoln and Springfield
east through Decatur and Newman... with a half to 1 inch closer to
the Illinois River. An additional 1 to 2 inches will be possible
through late Tuesday... especially across west central and southwest
Illinois.
* Area rivers have already begun to rise as a result of this rain.
Portions of the Sangamon river may approach or exceed flood stage
later this week. The spoon river at London Mills and Seville are
forecast to crest just below flood stage later in the week.
Portions of the Illinois River are still in flood from the heavy
rain a couple weeks ago... and this additional rain will likely
cause renewed rises.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
