Much of the precipitation was located across southern Illinois into southeast Missouri...moving southeast at nearly 30 mph...with showers and storms redeveloping behind the main area. These storms have a history of producing torrential rains...with upwards 1 to 1.5 inches of rainfall per hour. Through 10 am...communities that may be affected by the heavier storms include New Madrid Missouri...Paducah and the Land Between The Lakes recreational area in Kentucky...Benton...Harrisburg and the Rend Lake recreational area in Illinois.

* At 823 am CDT thunderstorms with torrential rainfall were moving slowly across portions of southern Illinois. One hour radar rainfall estimates range between one and three inches. Storms will continue to move across the area through 1030 am with an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain possible.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams... and ponding of water on country roads and farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
