Statement as of 2:31 PM CST on December 08, 2009 ... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST Wednesday... A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST Wednesday. * Timing: rain and freezing rain will affect the Illinois River valley into late evening... before transitioning to snow. This snow is expected to begin diminishing toward sunrise. * Accumulations: snow totals of 1 to 3 inches will be likely... with the highest totals west of the Illinois River. Ice accumulations may reach a tenth inch... again mainly west of the river. * Wind: the strongest winds will begin developing early Wednesday morning... as the storm system moves to the northeast and intensifies. Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph will gust to near 45 mph by late Wednesday morning into the afternoon. * Impacts: hazardous travel conditions are expected... as roads quickly become snow covered and slippery this afternoon and evening. Reduced visibility is also expected during the heavier snowfall. Blowing and drifting snow can be expected on Wednesday... reducing visibilities especially in open areas. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving. |
