Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Monday, February 13, 2012. A storm raced out of the Rockies and into the Plains on Monday, producing a good shot of Winter weather in the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Winter Weather Advisories were posted from eastern Oklahoma through the western Tennessee Valley in anticipation of several inches of new snow. Snow fell as far north as Minnesota and Michigan, but lighter snow was reported the farther north you went. In the warmer air closer to the Gulf Coast, rain fell in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Wet weather also greeted the West Coast as a Pacific storm slammed into California. This storm lacked a tremendous amount of moisture, but it has been a very dry Winter for the state thus far, and any precipitation is very much welcomed. Up to a foot of new snow is possible from this storm in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevadas when all is said and done.

The East Coast was dry as a high pressure continued to dominate, but the region experienced another chilly day. By the afternoon, temperatures were still in the 20s and 30s for many areas in New England, while temperatures in the 30s were experience as far south as Arkansas. Morning temperatures were in the 20s in northern Florida.

The Northern Plains rose into the 20s and 30s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The Southwest rose into the 40s, 50s, and some 60s.

Special Statement
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 8:15 PM CST on February 13, 2012

... Snow moving out... patchy freezing drizzle developing...

The accumulating snows will come to an end from west to east
across central and southeast Illinois this evening. Total
snow accumulations could reach between 1 to 2 inches south of
Interstate 72... while snowfall should remain under a half inch in
most areas north of I-72.

After the snow moves out... patchy freezing drizzle is expected to
develop and continue through the overnight hours... into Tuesday
morning. As temperatures slip back into the upper 20s
overnight... the freezing drizzle will likely cause some slippery
spots on area roads. The slippery driving conditions could last
through the morning commute.

Anyone planning travel overnight should be aware of slippery
Road conditions. Be especially cautious on elevated Road surfaces
such as bridges and overpasses which typically see ice formation
before other areas.
