Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 8:10 PM CST on December 24, 2009
An already strong low pressure system over southern Missouri will strengthen even further overnight as it moves north into Iowa. On the northeast side of this storm system... portions of north central Illinois are seeing winds near 30 mph gusting to around 35 mph. This is in the same area where freezing rain has coated tree limbs and power lines. Some of this ice has started to melt... but temperatures are hovering barely above freezing in many locations. Winds are not expected to increase much more overnight... but until this low pressure system starts to pull away to the west tomorrow morning... the combination of strong winds and residual ice could cause additional problems with falling tree limbs and power lines in some locations.
