... The Flood Warning remains in effect until 1115 am CST for urban
areas and small streams in northern La Salle... Lee... DeKalb... Ogle...
Boone... western McHenry and Winnebago counties...
At 330 am CST... National Weather Service radar indicated a large
area of rain across far northern Illinois... with another large area
of showers lifting northward into central Illinois from southern
Illinois. Reports from across the area have indicated storm total
rainfall amounts of between 1 and 2 inches have fallen through 3 am
CST... with an additional half inch possible this morning as the
second area of rain across central Illinois moves across the area.
This rain is falling onto saturated and possibly even frozen
ground. Low lying areas along creeks and streams are likely to
experience flooding as runoff from this rain... together with melting
ice and snow... causes water levels to rise overnight. Flooding is
likely to persist for a while this morning even after the heaviest
rain comes to an end.
Earlier this morning at 130 am CST... standing water was being
reported on Illinois Route 251 at north 46 Road just north of
Mendota in La Salle country.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Be especially cautious at night when it is more difficult to see
water on the Road or judge how deep it is. Do not drive into areas
where water covers the Road.
