...Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CST this evening...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CST this evening.

* Timing...snow will persist across the area today. The snow will be heaviest this morning...before gradually tapering off this afternoon and evening. Some sleet or rain may mix in this morning...especially across Champaign and Vermilion counties.

* Accumulations...4 to 7 inches of snow will be possible today and tonight... with the highest totals north of a Galesburg to Bloomington/normal line.

* Wind...gusty north to northeast winds of up to 35 mph will cause some blowing and drifting of the snow by late this afternoon and evening.

* Impacts...roadways will become snow covered and hazardous this morning. Visibilities will become poor due to the blowing and drifting of the snow...especially in open areas late this afternoon and evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight... food...and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
