Winter Storm Warning

... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 6 am Saturday to 6 am CST
The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Winter Storm
Warning for significant icing and sleet... which is in effect from
6 am Saturday to 6 am CST Sunday.
* Timing... freezing rain is expected to begin west of the Illinois
River Saturday morning, and continue throughout the day. There
may be brief periods Saturday afternoon where temperatures warm
up enough to change the freezing rain to all rain, but then
colder air will change it back to all freezing rain early
Saturday night. The freezing rain will mix with sleet Saturday
night and then change to all snow early Sunday morning.
* Accumulations... ice accumulations around 0.25 to 0.30 inch will
be common Saturday into Saturday night. Total sleet and snow
accumulations are expected to range from 1 to 2 inches along the
Illinois River... with up to 3 inches around Galesburg.
* Wind... an increasing northeast wind of 10 to 20 mph from
Saturday afternoon into the evening may cause damage to ice
coated tree branches.
* Impacts... travel will become increasingly hazardous west of the
Illinois River Saturday morning through Saturday night as
roadways become icy. Untreated sidewalks and parking lots will
also become icy... creating a hazard for pedestrians. Smaller
tree branches are also expected to be damaged by the ice.
A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of ice and
sleet are expected. Gusty winds are also possible. This will make
