Cold weather pattern to persist through next Wednesday
Dry northerly flow aloft persists through Friday with continued cold and mostly clear conditions. Expect highs in the mid to upper twenties in the Snake River Plain and in the mid to upper teens in higher terrain... mainly in the central mountains and upper snake Highlands.
Friday night into Saturday morning a upper level low drops in from Canada. This system has the potential to bring some light snow to southeast Idaho. Most areas could receive 1 to 2 inches of snow. Expect increased winds on Friday night and Saturday. With very cold air already in place... wind chills will be below zero even through the day on Saturday in most locations.
Mainly this Canadian system coming through on Saturday will reinforce the cold air already in place. Day time highs Sunday through Tuesday will be in the mid teens across the Snake River Plain and in the upper single digits to lower teens in the central mountains and upper snake Highlands. Morning lows with cloud cover will be near zero in the Snake River Plain and -10 to -20 in higher terrain mainly in the central mountains and upper snake Highlands. Expect even lower morning lows in areas with snow on the ground and clear skies.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Extended exposure to cold temperatures particularly with wind chills can be hazardous to pets and certain livestock. Additionally... prolonged exposure to cold temperatures can freeze pipes and make cars difficult to start. It is important to plan ahead with appropriate clothing and emergency supplies when traveling outdoors.
