... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM CDT
Saturday...
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM CDT
Saturday.
* Short term trends... moderate to occasionally heavy snow is
expected across the advisory area through 10 PM. Some of the
heaviest snow is forecast from near the Des Moines Metro area
south toward Creston and Lamoni. In locations from Oskaloosa to
Ottumwa and Bloomfield where snow has yet to start... the snow is
forecast to move into the area over the next few hours. Snow
accumulations will be on the order of one half inch per hours
although isolated higher rates will occur.
* Timing... snow is expected to persist overnight in central and
southern Iowa... although a gradual dissipation will occur from
northwest to southeast. On Saturday morning... areas primarily
south of Highway 92 will see some light to moderate snow
lingering before ending by midday.
* Storm total accumulations... accumulations will range from
three to five inches in the advisory area with a few higher
amounts possible across the far southern border counties of
Iowa.
* Impacts... the snow will accumulate initially on grassy areas.
After sunset snow will accumulate on roads resulting in slush
to snow covered conditions. Roads are likely to become
slippery and travel times to area destinations will be
lengthened. Visibility will be reduced to under one half mile
at times which will cause difficult travel conditions.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered
roads and limited visibility... and use caution while driving.
