Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 9:17 PM CST on February 12, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST
Monday...

* timing... snow will continue to move in from the southwest
overnight... and continue through much of Monday. Also... areas
of freezing drizzle will be possible mainly along and south of
Interstate 80 through the morning.

* Snow amounts... much of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa
will see up to 2 inches of snow... with higher totals of 3 or 4
inches expected from near Albion to Norfolk... Wayne and Pender.
The heaviest snow will likely be falling during the morning
commute.

* Impacts... the combination of 1 to 4 inches of snow along with
areas of freezing drizzle will make for dangerous travel
conditions... especially during the morning commute when the
heaviest snow is expected. Slick roads and sidewalks along with
reduced visibilities can be expected. Motorists should allow
plenty of extra time to reach morning destinations.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

This Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow and
freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
