Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 3:39 PM CST on November 16, 2009
... Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday afternoon...
The Flood Watch continues for
* portions of south central Iowa and southeast Iowa... including
the following areas... in south central Iowa... Appanoose...
Lucas... Mahaska... Marion... Monroe and Wayne. In southeast
Iowa... Davis and Wapello.
* Through Tuesday afternoon
* moderate to locally heavy rainfall will affect the watch area
into tonight. The rainfall intensity will diminish by late
Tuesday morning. Widespread amounts of 1.5 to 2 inches... with
locally heavier amounts as high as 3 inches... are possible. As
a result... streams in southern Iowa may experience minor river
flooding as early as Tuesday afternoon. The rivers of most
concern include the Chariton and south skunk rivers.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
