* at 546 am CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rainfall fell across the advisory area earlier this morning with two to three inches of rain in many areas.
* Although additional heavy rains are not anticipated through 800 am... runoff from this excessive rainfall may cause minor flooding to occur... especially along small streams and near low water crossings. Although the urban flooding will likely recede soon... broadcast media in Waterloo reported flooded basements due to the heavy rain and lack of power in many areas. At 554 am... mid American energy reported nearly 8200 customers without power in Black Hawk County.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause minor flooding of small creeks and streams... country roads... as well as farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.
Slow down and do not drive into water. Even a few inches of water can cause loss of control.
Air traffic controller reports trees, estimated 3-4 feet in diameter, uprooted at Airport. Limbs, estimated 8-10 inches in diameter, blown down. Hanger doors bent in and a helicopter was blown into a fence.
