	Winter Storm Warning
Statement as of 1:01 PM CST on December 25, 2009 ... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am CST Saturday... A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am CST Saturday. * Short term trends... moderate snow and blowing snow continues over the western portion of the warning west of Interstate 35. Snow will continue this afternoon as more moisture moves west into the warning area from the east. * Storm total snow accumulations... 4 to 8 inches of snow will be possible in eastern areas of the warning. Western areas will receive from twelve to eighteen inches of snow by Saturday. Localized twenty inch amounts may occur across the far northwest. * Winds and visibility... northwest winds at 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts mainly west of Interstate 35. The winds combined with the falling snow will result in near whiteout conditions at times west of an Algona through Lamoni line. * Impacts... travel may become nearly impossible due to blowing and drifting snow this morning... especially over the west sections of the warning area. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow and blowing snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous to nearly impossible at times. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Strong winds are also possible.
