* short term trends... a band of moderate snow will move through areas west of Interstate 35 this morning while bands of sleet... freezing rain and snow are expected along and just east of Interstate 35 through 11 am. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible over the west along with minor ice accumulations elsewhere.
* Storm total snow accumulations... 4 to 8 inches of snow will be possible in eastern areas of the warning. Western areas will receive from twelve to eighteen inches of snow by Saturday. Localized twenty inch amounts may occur across the far northwest.
* Winds and visibility... northwest winds at 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts mainly west of Interstate 35. The winds combined with the falling snow will result in near whiteout conditions at times west of an Algona through Lamoni line.
* Impacts... travel may become nearly impossible due to blowing and drifting snow this morning... especially over the west sections of the warning area.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow and blowing snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous to nearly impossible at times. Only travel in an emergency. Light snow still falling. County roads have 4 to 5 foot drifts in southeast Union County. Around a tenth of an inch of ice fell prior to the snow.
