The Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from late tonight through late Friday night. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight CST tonight.
* Timing... the storm system will produce several waves of precipitation. A wintry mix of freezing rain... sleet... and snow are expected today. The precipitation will tend toward freezing rain and rain this afternoon... especially south and southeast of Omaha. The wintry mix will continue Wednesday night... changing more toward sleet and snow Wednesday night and Thursday. Snow is expected to continue into Friday night.
* Snow accumulations... snow accumulations of 6 or more inches may occur from this storm.
* Ice accumulations... significant ice accumulations are possible through tonight. The most significant ice accumulations look to be south of Seward to Tekamah to Harlan Iowa where more than a tenth to a quarter of an inch or more of ice is possible.
* Winds... the wind will be increasing Thursday... and strong northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts should continue through Friday night leading to considerable blowing and drifting snow leading to near white out conditions.
* Impacts... this system will produce significant impacts to travel from today through Friday night. Along with significant snowfall and ice accumulations... strong winds will produce blowing and drifting snow leading to reduced visibilities. Due to the combination of the strong winds and ice accumulations... power outages will also be possible from the storm.
