Watches & Warnings

Blizzard Warning
Issued: 9:32 PM CST Feb. 7, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST Monday...

* short term trends... cold air will surge into Iowa overnight
which will bring with it even stronger wind speeds and snow
showers with occasional bursts of heavier snow. The combination
of strong wind producing some blowing snow... falling snow and
drifting snow across roads will make travel extremely dangerous
overnight into Monday morning.

* Storm total snow accumulations... around an inch with narrow
bands of locally higher amounts are possible.

* Winds/visibility... northwest wind 25 to 35 mph with occasional
gusts to near 45 mph. Visibilities may drop to one quarter mile
or less at times... particularly in open areas and during
heavier snow showers.

* Impacts... considerable blowing snow and restricted visibilities
along with drifting snow will cause dangerous travel in some
areas... especially in areas that are open or unprotected.
Conditions may change rapidly... even across individual counties.
Winds of this magnitude may also affect driving of low profile
vehicles and loose light weight objects.

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.
