... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from noon today to midnight
CST tonight...
The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow... which is in effect from noon today to
midnight CST tonight.
Rain is forecast to overspread southern Iowa this morning and
continue into afternoon and nighttime hours. In southwestern
portions of the area... enough cold air will be present for rain to
mix with then change to snow by this afternoon. The snow is
expected to persist into the evening hours before mixing or
changing back to all rain by midnight. Snow accumulations of 2 to
4 inches are expected in the advisory area with isolated 5 inch
amounts. Most of the accumulation will be on grassy areas as
pavement temperatures are around 40 degrees. However... with sunset
this evening... Road and especially bridge temperatures should fall
to near freezing with slushy accumulations possible on these
surfaces.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will
cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and
limited visibility... and use caution while driving.
