Statement as of 9:54 PM CST on December 22, 2009 ... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon CST Wednesday... ... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Thursday morning through Friday afternoon... A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon CST Wednesday. A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Thursday morning through Friday afternoon. * Timing... the storm system is likely to produce several waves of precipitation. Freezing drizzle or light freezing rain is expected overnight. Depending on temperatures... freezing rain or rain may occur Wednesday. Another round of precipitation is expected on Wednesday night... which could also be rain or freezing rain. Precipitation should mix with sleet and then gradually change to snow Thursday and continue through Friday. * Snow accumulations... snow accumulations near 6 inches are possible from this storm... mainly Thursday and Friday. * Ice accumulations... significant ice accumulations of a tenth to a quarter of an inch are possible Wednesday before the freezing rain becomes all rain. * Winds... the wind will be increasing Thursday into Thursday night and continuing through Friday. Some blowing and drifting snow is possible during that time. * Impacts... significant impacts to travel are possible from this storm system. Due to the combination of the strong winds and ice accumulations... power outages will also be possible from the storm. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Watch means that there is potential for significant snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts for updates. A Freezing Rain Advisory means that periods of freezing rain or freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving. |
