Weather Underground midday recap for Monday, February 13, 2012. A storm raced out of the Rockies and into the Plains on Monday, producing a good shot of Winter weather in the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Winter Weather Advisories were posted from eastern Oklahoma through the western Tennessee Valley in anticipation of several inches of new snow. Snow fell as far north as Minnesota and Michigan, but lighter snow was reported the farther north you went. In the warmer air closer to the Gulf Coast, rain fell in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Wet weather also greeted the West Coast as a Pacific storm slammed into California. This storm lacked a tremendous amount of moisture, but it has been a very dry Winter for the state thus far, and any precipitation is very much welcomed. Up to a foot of new snow is possible from this storm in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevadas when all is said and done.

The East Coast was dry as a high pressure continued to dominate, but the region experienced another chilly day. By the afternoon, temperatures were still in the 20s and 30s for many areas in New England, while temperatures in the 30s were experience as far south as Arkansas. Morning temperatures were in the 20s in northern Florida.

The Northern Plains rose into the 20s and 30s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The Southwest rose into the 40s, 50s, and some 60s.

... Slick travel tonight as areas of freezing drizzle and light snow
continue...

Patchy to areas of very light freezing drizzle will continue across
parts of northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin through 10 PM. Law
enforcement has reported some slick roads... but mostly due to snow
earlier in the evening. This has resulted in some accidents and cars
going off the Road.

Light snow and patchy freezing drizzle will continue for southeast
Minnesota and western Wisconsin through 10 PM. Additional snow
accumulations will be under 1/2 inch. Some roads in these areas
will also be slick from the light snowfall.

Motorists should be prepared for slippery travel tonight. Untreated
and less traveled roadways will have some icy spots on them. Be
alert... allow for longer stopping distances and extra time to
reach your destination.
