... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am CST
Saturday...

* short term trends... moderate to heavy snow will continue into
the early morning hours along and west of Interstate 35 where
the heaviest accumulations will occur. Additional amounts of 3
to 6 inches will occur during the overnight. East of Interstate
35... a mix of rain and snow is expected with some mixture of
rain and sleet from time to time. Overnight snowfall will remain
from 1 to 3 inches.

* Storm total snow accumulations... 4 to 8 inches of snow will be
possible in eastern areas of the warning. Western areas will
receive from twelve to eighteen inches of snow by Saturday.
Localized twenty inch amounts may occur across the far
northwest.

* Winds and visibility... northwest winds at 25 to 35 mph with
higher gusts mainly west of Interstate 35. The winds combined
with the falling snow will result in near whiteout conditions at
times west of an Algona through Lamoni line.

* Impacts... travel may become nearly impossible due to blowing
and drifting snow this morning... especially over
the west sections of the warning area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow and
blowing snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous to
nearly impossible at times. Only travel in an emergency. If you
must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency. Strong winds are also
possible.
