Statement as of 6:00 PM CDT on April 01, 2015

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
western Iowa
north-central Kansas
eastern and south-central Nebraska
extreme southeast South Dakota

* effective this Wednesday night and Thursday morning from 600 PM
until 100 am CDT.

* Primary threats include...
isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 65
statute miles east and west of a line from 40 miles east
southeast of Hill City Kansas to 10 miles northeast of Spencer

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.


Discussion... thunderstorms are expected to increase in coverage and
intensity this evening into tonight ahead of a cold front sweeping
east across the region. Large hail and damaging wind gusts will be
the primary hazards with these storms.

Aviation... a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft
to 1.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60
knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 450. Mean storm
motion vector 24030.

... Red flag warning remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening
for low relative humid and strong winds for fire weather zones
249... 300 and 301...

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a red flag
warning... which is in effect from 3 PM this afternoon to 8 PM CDT
this evening. A Fire Weather Watch has also been issued. This
Fire Weather Watch is in effect from late Thursday morning
through early Thursday evening.

* Affected area... fire weather zone 300. Fire weather zone 301.
Fire weather zone 249.

* Wind... be aware of a wind shift. Southwest winds 20 to 35
mph... shifting northwest at 20 to 35 mph by early this evening.

* Humidity... as low as 25 percent.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.
