Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 3:34 AM CST Feb. 9, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect until 9 am CST this
morning...

* short term trends... conditions will slowly improve early this
morning. Visibilities will gradually increase after snow showers
end this morning. However... strong northwest winds will
continue to produce blowing and drifting snow... gradually
diminishing toward mid-morning.

* Winds/visibility... northwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts to 40
mph. Visibility will be reduced to below two miles at times and
cause greater reductions in visibility to around a mile at
ground level.

* Wind chills... wind chills will also be very cold this
morning... falling into the 15 below to around 20 below range
through mid morning.

* Impacts... travel is not advised over portions of northern Iowa
due to considerable blowing snow and restricted visibilities.
At this time Interstate 35 remains closed from Ames to Clear
Lake. Blowing and drifting snow will also cause slick roads
and dangerous travel.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for blowing snow means that blowing
snow will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered
roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving
especially in open areas.

Any reports of blowing snow and reduced visibility are much
appreciated and can be relayed directly to the National Weather
Service using twitter handle NWS Des Moines... hashtag nwsdmx or
Post to the NWS Des Moines facebook Page.
