Winter Storm Warning
Statement as of 2:38 PM CST on January 31, 2015

...Winter Storm Warning now in effect until 6 PM CST Sunday...

* timing...snow will continue to fill in late Saturday...then continue Saturday night through midday Sunday. The snow will decreasing in intensity Sunday afternoon.

* Accumulations...7 to 8 inches...locally up to 9 inches especially near Storm Lake.

* Wind and visibility...visibility will drop to a half mile or less in falling snow. Northeast winds will become northerly by Sunday morning...averaging 15 to 30 mph which will cause some drifting snow in open areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight...food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Statement as of 4:00 PM CST on January 31, 2015

...Special Weather Statement...

A wintry mix of precipitation including light snow...sleet...and even some freezing drizzle is occurring along and south of Interstate 90 late this afternoon. Untreated Road surfaces will be very slick. It is expected that the wintry mix will changeover to all snow by around 6 PM.
