... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through late Thursday
night...
The Flash Flood Watch continues for
* all Hawaiian islands.
* Through late Thursday night.
* Heavy showers and thunderstorms can be expected over portions of
the state due to an upper level low just north of the islands.
The upper low will remain near the islands through at least
Thursday... continuing the threat for flash flooding.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Prepare now for the possibility of very heavy
rainfall that could cause flash flooding.
Campers and hikers should pay particular attention to later
forecasts. Stay away from creeks... streams... and other flood
prone areas. Remember that it does not have to be raining where
you are for flash flooding to occur.
400 PM HST Wed Nov 11 2009
... The Flood Advisory remains in effect until 615 PM HST for the
island of Hawaii in Hawaii County...
At 351 PM HST... radar showed an area of heavy showers and
thunderstorms extending eastward from near Hilo. These showers were
moving northeast at 10 mph.
The area of heavy showers and thunderstorms near Hilo will weaken
and move offshore by 430 PM. Runoff will continue to cause minor
problems with ponding of water in the Hilo area.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.
Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.
Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
Turn around... Don/T drown.
A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect through Thursday night.
