Statement as of 5:00 PM HST on February 28, 2015

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* until 800 PM HST

* at 454 PM HST... radar showed heavy rain 7 miles west of Pahala... or
about 39 miles southeast of Kailua-Kona. The area of heavy rain was
nearly stationary.

* Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Wood
Valley... Naalehu and Pahala.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
Turn around... Don/T drown.


This advisory may need to be extended beyond 800 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

Statement as of 4:34 PM HST on February 28, 2015

At 430 PM HST... a line of strong thunderstorms was located from 14
miles north of Wood Valley to 8 miles northwest of Naalehu... moving
east at 5 mph.

Expect intense lightning from these storms. Do not stay in the open
nor seek shelter under trees when lightning threatens... move indoors
when a thunderstorm approaches. Very heavy rain will fall from these
storms... and will cause water to pond on roads and fill poor drainage
areas. The rain will cause rapid rises on small streams and creeks.
These storms will be near Wood Valley around 515 PM... Pahala around
530 PM... kawa flats around 545 PM.
