Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 5:00 AM HST on March 04, 2015

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for the island of Maui in Maui County

* until 800 am HST

* at 448 am HST... rain gages at Haiku and Kahakuloa showed heavy rain
falling at over one inch per hour. Radars showed an area of heavy
rain nearly stationary over the north half of Maui.

* Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to
Kahului... Wailuku... Iao Valley... Paia and Kapalua.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
Turn around... Don/T drown.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for Maui and The Big Island
until 600 am Thursday.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 800 am HST if heavy rain
persists.

329 am HST Wed Mar 4 2015

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 am HST Thursday...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Maui and The Big Island.

* Until 600 am Thursday.

* Heavy rain will bring the threat for flash flooding on Maui and
The Big Island.

* The highest threat will be on the windward sides of Maui and The
Big Island where the trade-wind flow will focus the showers. Excessive
runoff may result in rock and mudslides in steep terrain. Fast
moving waters may create life threatening situations.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Avoid camping or hiking near streams and low lying areas. Monitor
the latest forecasts and be prepared to take immediate action if
heavy rain occurs or flash flood warnings are issued. Remember
that it does not have to be raining where you are for flash
flooding to occur.
