Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 2:21 PM CST on December 17, 2009
... Flood Watch remains in effect from 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ this
evening through Friday evening...
The Flood Watch continues for
* portions of southeast Alabama and south Georgia... including the
following areas... in southeast Alabama... Coffee... Dale...
Geneva... Henry and Houston. In Georgia... Baker... Ben Hill...
Calhoun... Clay... Dougherty... early... Irwin... Lee... Miller...
Mitchell... Quitman... Randolph... Terrell... Tift... Turner and
Worth.
* From this evening through Friday evening
.Low pressure will approach the coast tonight and move across the
Florida Big Bend on Friday. Associated with this area of low
pressure... widespread rainfall is expected to develop across the
watch area this evening and continue through Friday morning.
Rainfall will taper off from west to east Friday afternoon. The
rainfall may become locally heavy overnight across portions of the
area. Areal rainfall totals of around 3 inches are expected with
locally higher amounts. Many locations in the watch area have
seen significant rainfall over the past several days resulting in
already saturated soils. Residents across southeast Alabama and
southern Georgia... especially those that live near already
swollen rivers and streams should keep up to date with the latest
forecasts concerning this potential hazardous flooding situation.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor the latest forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
