Statement as of 9:58 AM EST on December 24, 2009 ... Wind Advisory remains in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 7 am EST Friday for much of north and central Georgia... A strong storm system will continue strengthening over the Midwest. A strong cold front will move out of the Midwest and into the southeast this afternoon. This front will move rapidly across north and central Georgia tonight. Ahead of the front... a ridge of high pressure will strengthen over much of the region this afternoon and tonight which will tighten the pressure gradient. East winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph this afternoon with some gust nearing 30 to 35 mph tonight. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Wind Advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least 20 mph... or gusts to 35 mph or stronger are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. |
