Special Statement
Issued: 3:12 PM EST Feb. 9, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Scattered snow showers continuing this evening...
... Patchy black ice expected...

On either side of the I-20 corridor... scattered snow showers or
flurries will continue through this evening before tapering off
later tonight. Additional accumulations will be minor... generally
a dusting to 1/4 inch. However... the potential for icy spots on
roads will increase as temperatures quickly fall below freezing
after sunset this evening.

Secondary roads... bridges and overpasses will be most prone to
seeing any accumulating snow and black ice. Motorists are urged to
use extreme caution if venturing out tonight.

More widespread impacts and hazardous driving conditions will
exist along and north of a Rome to Canton to Dawsonville line
where higher accumulations of snow have occurred. A Winter Weather
Advisory remains in effect for these areas... including the north
Georgia mountains... through 10 am Wednesday.

portions of west-central Georgia...

Areas of light snow or flurries will increase across west-central
Georgia this morning... including Metro Atlanta. For areas along
and north of I-20 and I-85... a quick dusting to 1/2 inch of snow

covered which may create a few slick spots through the morning.

Heavier snow accumulations are expected across north Georgia...
north of a Rome to Canton line and in the mountains... where a
Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for 1 to 2 inches of snow
with locally higher amounts.

Stay tuned to the latest forecasts for updates on this evolving
