Warnings and Notices
Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 5:08 PM EDT on July 10, 2009
... Strong thunderstorm affecting Indian River County... additional
storms may fire behind sea breeze to the south...
At 506 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
strong storm 6 miles west of Vero Beach... moving northeast at 5 mph.
Additional storms may develop behind the sea breeze in Indian River
and Saint Lucie counties.
The primary threat will be cloud to ground lightning strikes and
gusty winds of 45 to 55 mph... which can cause unsecured objects to
blow around... snap tree limbs or cause power outages. Heavy rainfall
will temporarily reduce visibility. Seek shelter indoors until the
storm passes.
A brief period of small hail... pea to dime size... will also be
possible in localized areas.
State law requires headlights to be turned on when windshield wipers
are in use.
