Nowcast as of 2:12 PM EDT on July 10, 2009
Now
Through late afternoon...isolated storms will move slowly east across the northern portion of east central Florida...generally northward from Orlando and Cape Canaveral. The storms will increase in coverage and a few strong storms with frequent to excessive lightning are expected...especially from around Cape Canaveral into Metro Orlando. South of Orlando and Cape Canaveral to around Lake Okeechobee...mid to high level clouds were thinning which will allow for heating and destabilization of the atmosphere. So during the late afternoon and early evening hours...storms will start to form across the south half of the area...and a few could become severe.

Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 2:28 PM EDT on July 10, 2009
... Strong thunderstorms affecting northwestern Brevard County...
southeastern Volusia County...
At 225 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
strong storm over Oak Hill... this storm was nearly stationary.
Locations in the path of this strong storm include Interstate
95... US 1... Oak Hill... Apollo Beach... and Bethune Beach.
The primary threat will be cloud to ground lightning strikes and
gusty winds of 40 to 45 mph... which may cause unsecured objects to
blow around. Torrential rainfall can be expected... causing temporary
ponding on some roads and minor flooding of poor drainage areas.
Motorists should slow down in heavy rainfall to reduce the risk of
hydroplaning and leave safe distance between other vehicles.
A brief period of small hail... pea to dime size... will also be
possible in localized areas.
