The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay area - Ruskin FL has issued a heat advisory... which is in effect from noon today to 7 PM EDT this evening.
Temperatures climbing into the mid 90s combined with high humidity values will create dangerous heat indices in the 105 to 110 degree range this afternoon.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A heat advisory is issued when the heat index... a measure of how it feels when temperature and humidity are combined... exceeds 105 for 3 hours or more during the day... and observed nighttime temperatures remain above 80 degrees... for two consecutive days or more.
Do not leave children or pets in locked vehicles! Temperatures can rise above 130 degrees in minutes... quickly increasing the chance for heat stroke and possible death. If you must be outdoors... try to do so during the early morning or evening. Drink plenty of water... especially before you get thirsty. Try to remain in air conditioned or well ventilated buildings.
