Easterly winds from the Atlantic and a disturbance across North Florida will generate scattered to numerous showers across east central Florida today. Heavier showers will affect the Treasure Coast this morning with localized rainfall amounts up to an inch. Additional showers will develop farther north into the afternoon. There will be a slight chance for an afternoon lightning storm mainly across the southern Treasure Coast...Okeechobee County and around Lake Okeechobee as daytime heating and additional instability across South Florida allows convection with a few lightning strikes to develop. A Small Craft Advisory continues across the east central Florida Atlantic waters where seas will build over 8 feet offshore as onshore flow strengthens to around 20 knots. There will be rough surf and a moderate risk of rip currents at the Atlantic beaches today. Additional details...including graphics are available online at: http://www.Srh.NOAA.Gov/mlb/blog.Php

Flash Flood Warning, Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 10:15 AM EST on February 28, 2015

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
southeastern St. Lucie County in east central Florida...
northeastern Martin County in east central Florida...

* until 1145 am EST

* at 1015 am EST... Doppler radar indicated persistent heavy rainfall
continues. Emergency management officials reported flooding is
occurring in the Palm City area north to port St Lucie with many
cars becoming stranded on roads and water starting to enter homes.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Port Saint
Lucie... Stuart and Palm City.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive on flooded roads. Move to higher ground now. Most flood
deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas
where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper
than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough
to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded roads make
the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
