Nowcast as of 11:01 am EST on February 9, 2010
Now
Rain will spread eastward from the Gulf of Mexico across much of east central Florida today...especially this afternoon. Most areas will receive measurable rainfall of up to one quarter inch. However...a band of heavier rain is expected to produce one half to three quarters of an inch across portions of east central Florida. There is a slight chance for a few lightning strikes this afternoon. Conditions are not favorable for severe storms but gusty winds near 40 mph will be possible where deep convection (thunder) can develop. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for the offshore waters beyond 20 nautical miles for south winds around 20 knots. Small craft should exercise caution nearshore. Conditions will deteriorate further tonight and Wednesday as a powerful low pressure system develops along the mid Atlantic coast. Gale warnings may be needed for the offshore waters beginning late tonight.
