Nowcast | as of 10:07 am EDT on April 19, 2015

Scattered showers are expected to develop over the coastal counties of Brevard...Indian River...Saint Lucie and Martin between noon and 2 PM with an initial motion toward the north. But as these showers grow into lightning storms...their motion will turn toward the east northeast at 20 to 30 mph. Strong surface heating will combine with cooling temperatures in the mid levels and a difluent flow aloft to produce a higher coverage and intensity of storms than we have seen in previous days. The best chance for strong storms will be late this afternoon and early this evening...containing frequent lightning strikes...gusty winds up to 50 mph and small hail. One or two storms may become severe and produce damaging winds near 60 mph and large hail. Locally heavy rain may cause temporary flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas. Marine warnings appear likely this afternoon into this evening for portions of the intracoastal and nearshore Atlantic waters. Boaters should keep an eye to the western sky as storms will push offshore. Storm motion will be toward the east northeast at 20 to 25 knots.
