The National Hurricane Center is watching an area of disturbed weather just east of Florida for development. There is a 60% chance of intensification over the next 2 days and this system could become the first named tropical storm of the year. Many atmospheric models take the system close to the coasts of South Carolina and North Carolina later this week, but will have to wait for more information to be more confident in its track.

Nowcast | as of 2:30 PM EDT on May 6, 2015

cluster of showers with heavy downpours over the interior... At 230 PM...Melbourne Doppler radar showed a cluster of heavy rain showers from near Lake George and Mount Dora southward through Seminole and Orange counties...including the greater Sanford and Orlando areas. Another cluster of heavier showers was around greater Melbourne. Through late afternoon this activity will move south at 20 to 25 mph across Osceola...southern Brevard...and Indian River counties. If the activity holds together...it could affect areas farther south along the Treasure Coast and Lake Okeechobee regions.
