... Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect...
... Tropical storm wind watch remains in effect from Tuesday
morning through Wednesday afternoon...
... New information...
Hurricane Ida is beginning to weaken over the Gulf of Mexico and is
now down to a category 1 hurricane with further weakening expected
throughout the day.
... Precautionary/preparedness actions...
precautionary/preparedness actions...
As Hurricane Ida approaches the region late Monday night and into
Tuesday... winds will begin to increase with the potential for
tropical storm force winds across the area. These winds will have
the potential to create some power outages... thus make sure you
have on hand non- perishable food items... like canned goods and
bottled water. Tropical storm force winds are capable of causing
minor damage to Mobile homes. Secure light weight items... like
garbage cans and patio furniture. These items will have the
potential to become projectiles during the height of the storm
and cause additional damage.
... Probability of tropical storm/hurricane conditions...
the chance for tropical storm conditions at this time is 45
percent.
... Winds...
as Hurricane Ida moves closer... the threat for sustained high
winds is likely to increase. The potential is for winds up to
tropical storm force starting on Tuesday morning and continuing
into Wednesday morning.
... Storm surge and storm tide...
a long period of onshore winds associated with Ida will create
conditions favorable for storm surge. At this time... storm surge
values of 2 to 4 feet are expected across Wakulla and Jefferson
counties. Combining this with the astronomical tide produces an
overall storm tide of 5 to 7 feet... especially around the time of
high tide on Monday night and Tuesday morning. Below are times of
high tide for selected locations along the Wakulla and Jefferson
County coasts.
Saint Marks... high tide at 814 PM Monday night... high tide at
736 am Tuesday morning.
In addition to the threat for coastal flooding... large and
battering surf will begin to impact the beaches on Monday and
only increase in intensity by Tuesday morning. Surf heights of
3 to 5 feet will be possible. This will likely cause moderate
beach erosion. Needless to say... rip current risk will be extreme
and everyone... even experienced swimmers and surfers should
remain out of the water.
... Inland flooding...
storm total rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches is currently
expected across portions of the Florida Big Bend. Locally heavier
amounts are possible... particularly if a large band on the
eastern side of Ida moves over the region.
