... Precautionary/preparedness actions...
precautionary/preparedness actions...
The most significant threat from Ida will likely be along the
coast in the form of above normal tides and tropical storm force
wind gusts. Coastal residents should plan on storm tides from
3 to 5 feet... and take the appropriate precautions to protect
life and property. These actions should be taken as soon as
possible... as higher winds and rain from Ida will move in after
midnight and make outdoor chores difficult.
... Probability of tropical storm/hurricane conditions...
the probability of tropical storm force winds along the immediate
coast has dropped to 20 percent.
... Winds...
the best chance for tropical storm force winds will be on Tuesday
mainly in gusts along the immediate coast. These winds will be
possible early on Tuesday morning.
... Storm surge and storm tide...
a storm surge of 2 feet is possible in Apalachee Bay tonight and
Tuesday. This surge will add to the normal tide levels... creating
above normal tides. The main threat will come during high tide.
The following are the time of high tide at at Marks river
entrance...
736 am EST Tuesday... and 913 PM EST Tuesday.
At these times low lying areas along the coast will be most
vulnerable... as storm tides may reach as high as 5 feet.
Remember... storm tide is the storm surge plus the actual tide. In
this case... high tide will be about 3 feet and the storm surge
will be around 2 feet.
... Inland flooding...
a Flood Watch is in effect through Tuesday evening. Storm total
rainfall from today through Wednesday will generally range from
2 to 4 inches. Some localized flooding is possible in low lying
and poor drainage areas... especially near creeks and streams.
