Tropical Weather: Tropical Cyclone Jasmine (Southern Pacific) Tropical Cyclone Cyril (Southern Pacific)
Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Monday, February 06, 2012. A rare February tropical disturbance continued to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to south Florida to the tone of several inches. Even if the disturbance does not develop further, widespread rain and thunderstorms will continue through the rest of the day.

This precipitation represented the only significant precipitation in the country, further prolonging the relatively dry and mild Winter the country has experienced. The only other light precipitation was high elevation snow that fell in the Colorado Rockies.

Generally mild temperatures continued for much of the country, as been a staple for nearly the entire Winter. The coldest areas were noted in the Northern Rockies and Intermountain West where afternoon temperatures were still in the 20s and 30s for most areas.

The Northeast rose into the 40s, while the Southeast saw temperatures in the 60s, 70s, and some 80s in Florida. The Northwest rose into the 40s and 50s, while the Southwest saw temperatures in the 40s, 50s, and 60s.

Nowcast as of 10:33 PM EST on February 6, 2012
A surface trough extending across central Florida is forecast to drift slowly southward through early Tuesday morning. Low cloud ceilings behind the surface trough should slowly lower...resulting in areas of fog. Motorists should check the latest conditions and forecasts before venturing out onto the highways early Tuesday morning. The fog could become locally dense...especially near any smoldering brush fires. Patchy light rain will occur over land south of the surface trough... with a few showers and storms offshore near the Gulf Stream.
