Warnings and Notices
Coastal Flood Statement
Statement as of 6:10 AM EDT on October 13, 2008
... High risk of rip currents through Tuesday...
Strong high pressure centered over New England will build south
over the mid-Atlantic states through Tuesday. Strong onshore
winds and building seas will produce rough surf and a high risk
of rip currents.
Breakers of 4 to 6 feet are expected through Tuesday in the surf
zone. Large breakers can knock you down and make you susceptible
to rip currents. Stay out of the water until conditions improve.
Additionally... a long onshore wind fetch along with high
astronomical tides may produce minor coastal flooding and beach
erosion at times of high tide. Tides as much as one to two feet
above predicted values are expected.
Lake Wind Advisory
Statement as of 3:31 AM EDT on October 13, 2008
... Lake Wind Advisory in effect for northeast Florida and coastal
southeast Georgia from 11 am this morning to 7 PM EDT this
evening...
Strong high pressure to the north will produce strong gusty
northeast winds today. Wind speeds around 20 mph with gusts to
near 30 mph will occur in the advisory area.
A lake Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to
25 mph or gusts of 30 to 39 mph are expected. Small boats will be
especially prone to capsizing. Boaters in the advisory area
should avoid open water and stay close to shore in wind protected
inlets. High profile vehicles should use extra caution when
traveling as well.
