Coastal Flood Watch
Statement as of 9:48 PM EST on November 11, 2009
... Coastal Flood Watch remains in effect from Friday morning
through late Friday night...
A coastal Flood Watch remains in effect from Friday morning
through late Friday night.
Positive tidal departures are expected to increase in magnitude as
a strong coastal low pressure system strengthens near the mouth of
the Chesapeake Bay. Departures of 2.0 to 3.0 feet above normal
high tide will be possible beginning with high tide Thursday
afternoon and evening... and continuing through late Friday night.
Minor coastal flooding is anticipated... but strong winds and
anomalies higher than anticipated could result in moderate coastal
flooding.
Here are the times of the next high tides
for a few locations from north to south...
on the Chesapeake Bay...
Havre de Grace... 5:24 am and 6:11 PM...
Fort McHenry Baltimore... 2:11 am and 2:58 PM...
Annapolis U.S. Naval Academy... 12:41 am and 1:28 PM...
Solomons Island... 9:33 PM and 10:20 am...
Point Lookout... 9:30 am and 9:35 PM...
Now along the Potomac River...
Alexandria... 4:01 am and 4:33 PM...
Indian Head... 3:29 am and 4:01 PM...
Goose Bay... 11:35 PM and 12:07 PM...
Wicomico river near Cobb Island... 8:17 am and 8:33 PM...
Public Information Statement
Statement as of 4:39 PM EST on November 11, 2009
... Street flooding... Several inches of rain are possible over the next couple of days... especially along and east of Interstate 95. The rainfall will be steady and prolonged... therefore flash flooding or river flooding due to heavy rain is not expected. However... this time of year is prime for producing high standing water on roads and streets... especially in urbanized areas. It is also more difficult for rainfall to run off into tidal areas because of higher than normal tides. It is a good idea to check storm drains in your area and clear out fallen leaves and debris. Baltimore City... Washington DC... Alexandria and Annapolis are at greatest risk for street flooding.
