Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Plains, while also continuing across the East Coast on Friday. A low pressure system over the Rocky Mountains will persist on its eastward track and move into the Plains. Flow around this system will create northward flow, pulling abundant moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Southern Plains again on Friday, spreading northward through the Central and Northern Plains. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe across northeastern Colorado, into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds are likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front will slowly move eastward and offshore the East Coast on Friday. This system will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in these areas, but periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds will persist as this system lingers over the Northeast through Friday night.

Out West, an area of low pressure continues spinning over the Pacific Northwest, maintaining onshore flow. This will bring more rain showers to Oregon and Washington, with snow showers possible at highest elevations.

Flood Warning

The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Housatonic River at Stevenson dam.
* From this evening until late Friday night.
* At 9 PM Thursday the stage was... 10.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river is forecast to reach flood stage by 10 PM
Thursday and forecast to continue to rise to near 11.6 feet around
2 am Friday. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage after
8 PM Friday.
* Impact... at 11.5 feet... water reaches The Maples area of Shelton.

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Rockland County in southeast New York...
Hudson County in northeast New Jersey...
eastern Essex County in northeast New Jersey...
Bergen County in northeast New Jersey...
Westchester County in southeast New York...
northwestern New Haven County in southern Connecticut...
eastern Passaic County in northeast New Jersey...
Fairfield County in southern Connecticut...

* until 345 am EDT...

* at 1251 am EDT... the National Weather Service was tracking an area
of moderate to locally heavy rain that will overspread the region
through 200 am.

Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen across the region since
this afternoon... with an additional 1/4 to 3/4 of an inch of rain
expected through 400 am.

Minor flooding of some small streams... such as the pascack brook at
Westwood in Bergen County NJ... will continue through 4 am as a
result.

In addition... minor flooding of low lying and poor drainage area is
also possible overnight.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. Most flooding deaths occur in automobiles. Turn around and
find another Route.

Be prepared to take action if the flooding threat increases... or a
warning is issued.
