Winter Storm Watch
Statement as of 10:58 AM MST on November 14, 2009
... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from 6 PM MST this
evening through Sunday evening...
A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from 6 PM MST this evening
through Sunday evening.
This Winter Storm Watch is for all elevations of northern El Paso
County... Teller County... Chaffee County... Lake County and northern
Fremont County... including the Palmer Divide... Woodland Park
park... Pikes Peak... Salida... Buena Vista and Leadville.
A strong storm system is projected to drop into the 4 corners region
by sunrise Sunday and then move eastward across New Mexico. This
will bring the potential for heavy snow to develop across the region
tonight and continue through Sunday evening. Significant snow
accumulations in excess of 8 inches will be possible for the area
by storms end Sunday evening. Gusty north to northeast winds may
cause areas of blowing and drifting snow along with reduced
visibilities... especially across the Palmer Divide on Sunday.
There still remains uncertainty regarding the track of this storm
system. If you have travel plans across the region... please
monitor for the latest forecasts and possible warnings.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Watch is issued when there is the potential for
severe winter weather conditions to develop.
Winter storms may have strong winds and reduced visibility due to
heavy snowfall and blowing snow. Snow accumulations of over
6 inches across the plains and high valleys or over 8 inches in
the mountains may occur. If you are planning to travel in the
watch area during the time of the watch... listen to the latest
weather forecast and consider traveling at another time or by
another Route. If you must travel in or through the watch area
during the time of the watch... take along a winter survival kit.
