storms with very heavy rain... thunderstorms will move northeast across the eastern portions of the Denver Metro area and Palmer Divide late this evening. The strongest storms will be capable of producing very heavy rainfall with up to 1 inch in 15 minutes...hail...and strong gusty winds around 50 mph. Nearly continuous lightning can also be expected as the storms move through. Heavy rain will produce some flooding of low lying areas and intersections. The storms will spread northeastward into southern Weld and across the rural portions of eastern Adams and Arapahoe counties...while coming to an end in the Denver Metro area by 1030 PM.

Statement as of 9:31 PM MDT on July 10, 2009 The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a significant weather advisory for central Arapahoe County Central Adams County northeastern Denver County At 931 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm capable of producing Marble size hail... and wind gusts to around 50 mph. This storm was located over northeastern Aurora... or 20 miles east of Denver... moving northeast at 15 mph. Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Watkins... Manila Village... Bennett... Arapahoe Park... eastern Denver International Airport... northeastern Centennial and eastern Aurora. Precautionary/preparedness actions... This storm will produce dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning. If outdoors... stay away from isolated high objects such as trees and move indoors if possible. When indoors... stay away from windows and doors and avoid using land line telephones unless it is an emergency. Try to unplug unnecessary electrical appliances before the thunderstorm approaches. Remember... if you can hear thunder... you are in danger of being struck by lightning. Gusty winds from the storm may produce areas of reduced visibilities in blowing dust.
