Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, May 25, 2012.

Expect more active weather to develop across the Great Lakes on Friday, as a low pressure system moves from the Upper Midwest into eastern Canada. This system will push a cold front over the Great Lakes and Midwest, producing scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. There is a slight chance that some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds and large hail. Rainfall totals will range from 1 to 2 inches, with over 2 inches likely in areas of severe weather development.

Behind this activity in the West, a low pressure system will move over the Great Basin and into the Southern Rockies. Flow around this system will produce cooler temperatures across the West, while also triggering scattered showers over the Pacific Northwest, northern California, and Intermountain West. Snow showers may develop again across the highest elevations of the Northern Rockies.

Meanwhile in the East, high pressure builds from the Plains, over the Mississippi River Valley, and into the Eastern US. This will keep moisture away to the north, allowing for dry, sunny, and warm conditions. High temperatures will range in the 80s and 90s from the Central Plains through the Eastern Valleys, with parts of the Southern US reaching into the lower 100s.

High Wind Watch
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 9:32 AM MDT on May 25, 2012

... High wind watch remains in effect from Saturday afternoon
through Saturday evening...

A high wind watch remains in effect from Saturday afternoon
through Saturday evening.

* Location... all of the I-25 corridor and eastern plains... San
Luis valley... Pikes Peak... eastern San Juan and La Garita
Mountains... eastern Sawatch Range above 11000 feet... Mosquito
Range above 11000 feet... Sangre de Cristos above 11000 feet...
northern Fremont County.

* Cause and timing... a strong weather system will move into The
Rockies early Saturday and bring the threat for high winds
across much of southern Colorado.

* Wind... south to southwest 35 to 45 mph with gusts from 55 to
70 mph.

* Impact... strong winds will be a hazard to light weight and
high profile vehicles. Tree limb damage may occur... and light
weight objects will be blown around. Blowing dust may reduce
visibility as well. Fires would spread quickly.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high wind watch is issued when there is the potential for
sustained winds of at least 40 mph or gusts to at least 58 mph...
or at least 50 mph or gusts to at least 75 mph for the mountains.

Winds of this force can cause property damage... especially to
Mobile homes. Drivers of high profile vehicles are especially
vulnerable to the threat of strong Crosswinds. Other potential
high wind hazards include flying debris and blowing dust. If you
are planning travel in the watch area during the time of the
watch... listen to the latest weather forecast... and consider
traveling at another time or by another Route.
