... Red flag warning in effect until 8 PM MDT this evening for southwest Colorado fire zone 207 below 7000 feet elevation for gusty winds and low relative humidity...
The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a red flag warning until 8 PM MDT this evening for southwest Colorado fire zone 207 below 7000 feet elevation.
Gusty winds will continue to develop across southwest Colorado this afternoon as a weak upper disturbance combines with daytime heating to mix down stronger winds aloft. Afternoon mixing will also bring down dry air aloft... helping to lower relative humidity as well. After 2 PM... wind gusts near 30 mph and relative humidity of 10 to 15 percent are expected below 7000 feet elevation... where fuels are the driest.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of gusty winds... low relative humidity will create explosive fire growth potential.
