The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Winter Storm Watch... which is in effect from late tonight through Thursday evening. * Location... this Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Crowley... Otero... eastern Las Animas... bent... Prowers... and Baca County. * Cause and timing... snow is expected to spread across the area late tonight... and continue through Thursday. The window for the heaviest snowfall is most likely to occur Wednesday and Wednesday night. * Snow accumulation... total snowfall amounts of 6 inches or more will be possible. However... the exact track and strength of this system may result in more or less snowfall. * Wind... north winds will increase on Wednesday at 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph... and may cause areas of blowing and drifting snow... especially Wednesday afternoon through Thursday. * Impact... visibilities may drop below 1 mile at times in blowing and drifting snow Wednesday afternoon through Thursday. This could result in hazardous travel conditions... and possible Road closures. Please continue to monitor the latest forecasts concerning this developing winter storm. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Watch is issued when there is the potential for severe winter weather conditions to develop. Winter storms may have strong winds and reduced visibility due to heavy snowfall and blowing snow.
