Statement as of 1:27 PM MDT on July 04, 2009 The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... central Garfield County in west central Colorado northern Mesa County in west central Colorado * until 430 PM MDT * at 123 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated slow moving thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall about 14 miles west-northwest of Parachute... moving east-southeast at 15 mph. Doppler radar indicated rainfall rates in excess of 2 inches per hour with some of these storms. * Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Parachute and Rifle. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most flood related deaths occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges... dips... or low water crossings.
